Upgrading 2000 GMC Sierra Cargo and Bed Lighting morsunled.bloggersdelight.dk
When adding aftermarket bed lighting to your 2000 Sierra, you have two main wiring options. The simplest is to tap into the existing cargo lamp circuit. Locate the orange wire (constant power for the cargo lamp) and black wire (ground) at the third brake light assembly. Because LED strips draw very little current, the factory wiring can handle them without issue. The drawback is that the lights will only work when the dash button is pressed. For maximum utility, run a dedicated fused 12-gauge wire from the battery to a waterproof toggle switch mounted somewhere accessible, such as inside the bed wheel well or near the tailgate. This allows you to turn the bed lights on independently of the cab, which is incredibly useful when loading heavy items with the truck off.
